Tour Leaders play a vital role in the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Program
Before the Tour, it is imperative that Tour Leaders have a complete understanding of their commitment.

The following attributes are essential for a successful Tour.

Tour Leaders must be either Odd Fellows or Rebekah members.

Identification – A valid PASSPORT is required by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth for EVERYONE participating in the program.

  • United States Citizens can click on the following link for passport information: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html
  • Canadian Citizens can click on the following link for passport information: http://www.ppt.gc.ca/
  • Citizens of other countries will need to check with their own government for passport information. In some cases visas may be required by government agencies.

Character – The parents of delegates can feel secure in knowing that all Tour Leaders acknowledge the privilege of being entrusted with the care of their children.  Excellent moral character should be a given before any adult may be considered as a Tour Leader.

Demeanor – Tour Leaders are required to conduct themselves in a manner that is always worthy of respect.  It is vital to the overall success of this event, that Tour Leaders display proper organizational skills at all times.  This will enhance the day-to-day activities and add to the smooth transition of the daily itinerary changes.

Discipline – Tour Leaders must be consistent in their diligence to work toward the common goal at all times.  Maintaining a sincere and friendly relationship between other leaders, delegates and staff members throughout the Pilgrimage is a dial necessity.

Financial – It is the responsibility of the Jurisdiction or the Tour Leader to pay the Tour Leader Fee and for transportation to and from the starting point of the Tour. Tour Leader Fee for Summer 2017 is $ 1,300.00, in addition to transportation fees. Transportation shall be arranged in conjunction with the UNP Executive Director.

Humor – A healthy sense of humor is a gift, and part of the attitude that makes the best Tour Leaders.  It is necessary that the Tour Leaders possess the ability to live in close proximity with a variety of people for extended periods of time.  The ability to show love of young people in a cheerful, yet disciplined manner is an important commitment that all tour Leaders must fulfill.

Knowledge – Tour Leaders should conduct themselves with a good command of the English language at all times.  A good understanding of the United Nations and it’s purpose, knowledge of geography, in particular Tour routes, and historic sites is also necessary.

Loyalty – The Tour Leaders on each bus will, at all times, extend their loyalty and cooperation to each other in order to guarantee the success of the Tour.  The trip is one of enjoyment, educational fulfillment and friendship.  Being cooperative should be a must.

Physical – The Tour demands that each participant be able to withstand long hours of supervising while maintaining a cheerful attitude.  At times there may be insufficient sleep due to the responsibilities.  Tour Leaders must be in good physical condition and healthy.  There are days that we walk as much as 11 miles.

Performance – The Tour Leaders have serious responsibilities that must be met on a daily basis.  One of the primary duties is to see that all Delegates conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times.  Tour Leaders must provide an example of acceptable behaviour.  Tour Leaders must remain calm at all times!!!

Skill – Tour Leaders must maintain a high level of skill in the proper completion of arrangements made by the Executive Director.  This includes lodging, meals and accurate record keeping of all expenditures and a prompt report being sent to the Executive Director upon the completion of the Tour.  A harmonious atmosphere must prevail at all times among the Delegates and the other Tour Leaders.

It will be mandatory that Tour Leaders make periodic bed checks, even if you awaken sleeping Delegates.  The goal is to have everybody ready to go on time in the morning.

Please note this is an educational experience not a vacation or a shopping excursion for either Tour Leaders or Delegates.
